Yaesu FTDX101D answering Icom SDRs

We have been asked if Yaesu will be entering the world of SDR, well here is the answer !

FTDX101D HF/50MHz 100W Transceiver

YAESU is excited to introduce a new High-Class HF/50MHz 100W Transceiver – FTDX101D and the first sample will be seen at Dayton Hamvention 2018. This information and the sample showed at Dayton are only the preliminary introduction, and any detailed information such as pricing and date of release is to be announced at a later date.

The new FTDX101D is utilizing the latest SDR Technology and classified as our High-End HF line, the FTDX series, which amateurs have come to know represents quality.

A few of the remarkable features of the new FTDX101D are;
- YAESU High-Class HF/ 50MHz 100W Transceiver
- SDR Technology and Waterfall Display
- Large Touch Panel precision color display
- Active Band Monitor enables rapid band changes with LED illumination of the operating band
- Independent control of the Main and Sub Bands allows effortless operation for the serious contester needing to move quickly between the amateur bands
- High-Q VC Tuning Front-End
- Main tuning dial for Main and Sub Band frequency control includes an Outer Dial for clarifier, VC tuning, fine tuning or custom settings

I'm not a huge Yaesu fan and think this might be a panic reaction.  Will it be as good as the IC-7300 or the IC-7610 by Icom?

Hallo Bas, ik heb vrijwel altijd Yaesu spullen gehad. Ooit een Icom 2 meter SSB transceiver gehad, geweldig ding, had ik nooit moeten verkopen. Maar verder altijd Yaesu. Stevig spul werkt bijna altijd goed. Toch ben ik altijd een beetje verliefd blijven kijken naar Icom apparatuur. En nog. 73 Paul PA0K

Hoi Bas,
Mooie tranceiver, zal ook wel een mooi p[rijskaartje aanhangen. Zoals je weet ben ik een Yaesu fan. Avch het ligt gewoon aan de eerste ervaringen en dat is vaak bepalend voor de toekomst. Bijna alle apparatuur is mooi en kan veel. Smaken verschillen, zo ook qua tranceivers.

Hallo Paul, de enige Yaesy waar ik van onder de indruk ben is de FT-817. Voor de rest heb ik er niets mee. Het zijn mooie radio's maar over het algemeen niet zo betrouwbaar als Icom of Kenwood. Dat wil zeggen, dat lees ik hier en daar en is dan mijn conclusie. Yaesu had er beter aan gedaan om een echt nieuwe portable QRP HF/VHF/UHF radio te ontwerpen op basis van SDR. En dan denk ik aan iets met bijvoorbeeld standaard WiFi en/of bluetooth zodat je er draadloos een computer of tablet aan kan hangen. Maar dat zal wel een stap te ver zijn geweest. 73, Bas

Hallo Hans, ja jij bent dan wel weer echt Yaesu fan. Persoonlijk heb ik in het verleden te veel problemen gehoord met Yaesu radio's ook van zendamateurs hier uit de omgeving. De meesten zijn toen overgestapt op Icom of Kenwood. Maar goed zo heel veel scheelt het denk ik niet over het algemeen. 73, Bas

Overigens als ik moets kiezen tussen deze Yaesu en de IC-7300 dan ging ik toch voor de Icom al is het alleen maar vanwege het design. 73, Bas

Ik heb nooit problemen gehad met de Yaesu transceivers. Altijd goed en stevig gebouwd. Ik hoorde wel dat sommige met Icom apparatuur de eindtrap nog weleens er aan ging. Yaesu is alleen niet vernieuwend bezig, en dat is jammer. 73 Paul PA0K
