Alinco DJ-5G(EY) HT repair

Testing the HT from the base QTH
It first occured to me that there was something really wrong with my Alinco HT when talking to PE1BVQ last year when he was in the "neighbourhood", actually it was the first QSO from my new shack. I sounded like a bad PTT switch and it was so bad that my crackling modulation couldn't be easy understood. Strange enough I couldn't hear it myself when listening with the Baofeng. Anyway, I decided to open the Alinco and that went easy actually. I was afraid the PTT would not be easy to get to. But this HT can be opened like a book and it was very easy to get to the switches. I imidiatly found a bad grounding solderjoint and think that was the problem. A quick action with the soldering iron did the job. To test I made a one hour QSO with an old friend PD1BM Bert on 2m. I asked him several times if the modulation was ok. He had no complaints and told me the modulation was just like my own voice. Problem solved...

It opens like a book. Very nice design.
Note the cut blue wire in the right upper is to extend TX.
It does transmit out of band. The groundstrip is right of the blue wire.
Probleem opgelost...

The bad solder joint. Groundstrip could be lifted off the board.

Romanian blogger YO3HJV wrote a nice review about his Alinco DJ-5G.
