As a radioamateur I've got something with geography. When you work a lot of DX and you look at the worldmap were the country that you just spoke is located you develop a certain geographic feeling. With this ability you're able to locate a country on the map much faster as someone who isn't DXing. Sometimes you even know about countries no one else has heard of and you can point them exactly on the worldmap. I found a interesting map on the internet were you can find your antipodes. Here in the Netherlands you're always told that when you dig deep enough you find yourself in New Zealand at the end. If you take a look at the map it shows that it is not exact but not to far away. A few miles or so..... ;-)
Als radioamateur heb ik toch wat met geografie. Vooral als je veel DX werkt en kaarten bekijkt waar toch het land ligt dat je net geproken hebt ontwikkel je toch een soort geografisch gevoel. Over het algemeen merk ik toch dat ik vaak eerder weet waar een land zich bevind op de wereldkaart, soms van landen waar een ander nog nooit van gehoord heeft. Op internet vond ik een leuke kaart waarop je kan zien wie je "tegenvoeters" zijn. In Nederland wordt altijd gezegd dat als je een gat graaft naar de andere kant van de wereld je in Nieuw Zeeland uit komt. Zo te zien op het kaartje klopt dat niet helemaal, maar we zitten er wel redelijk dicht bij. Een paar kilometer zwemmen.... ;-)
