JT9 pushing the limits

As far as I can see the propagation today is very poor. That means we can now push JT9 through the limits.
This is the time to see what JT9 is capable of. And yes, it was extremely difficult to make QSO's this evening with  JT9 on 30m. I tried with about 5W at first but couldn't make it despite seeing traces from Italy and Austria I turned the power up to 10W and was just able to make it to OE6ASG. See the weak trace on the waterfall. The strong trace is from IK4IDF, I suppose he is having big QRM as it is difficult to reach him, I tried but despite his strong signal he couldn't decode my signal well enough to read his own report back. Now, I saw some very weak traces later as well, just see, no decode. I tried to improve by setting the 350Hz CW filter on the listening frequency and PREamp on. I managed to decode VE3VA and KE1AF but no spots and no QSO possible after a few tries.

I wonder what is going to happen this weekend in the CQWW WPX SSB contest? Besides the poor propagation second day of the contest is easter sunday and I think there will be less activity on the bands because of that. I certainly will be not on the radio over the day sunday except may be late that evening. Goal this time is to make as many QSO's as possible for points in the local VERON departments competitions The chance to work DX is minimum I think. This will be the last contest this first season, I will dismantle my horizontal loop to set it up in November again.

Hallo Bas, condx waren erg slecht gisteren.

73, Bas

Good morning Bas, I will say this JT9-1 sure is catching on!! the first couple of blogs I have read have all to do with this new mode. Also there seems to be improvements to it on a weekly basis. I can only go up as far as 5 watts at this QTH so not sure if I would make all that many contacts.
I read that Julian was at 25 watts and you had to move things up to 10 watts.

73, Bert

Indeed Mike, you would expect this is a QRPp mode. Not shure if it has to do with the bad propagation. Anyway, I recommend you doing a test with JT9 to see how things are working. This mode looks a little like WSPR, very small bandwidth. JT65 is much more broadband. I'll cetainly keep an eye on it. 73, Bas

73, Bas
