Actually I have the opportunity to be active from a national park on one of these "green" days. And have been visiting this park together with my dad last week. Been radio active there on 2m/70cm via repeaters only. Photos and a small video is on my dad's camera. Unfortunately I had no time yet to get them but will hopefully next week. I also tried to find a good DX location to set up a portable HF station which consists of my FT-817, Superantenna MP-1 and 7Ah battery. The question is.....where is it and what is it's WFF number... I made 2 photos from a possible location with my phone as a hint.
I only participated in the CQWW WPX CW for 1 hour last weekend. In de end I worked stations on 10, 15, 20 and 40m. No special DX but 32 QSOs in total, actually it was 33 but the first QSO went wrong when I sent 50 for exchange. Better concentrate when setting up the software next time...At least I scored 1 point for our national VERON sectioncontest.
Ondanks weinig tijd voor de hobby heb ik de mogelijkheid om vanuit een nationaal park aktief te zijn op 1 van de "groene" dagen van het WFF programma. En ik heb het park zelfs al bezocht afgelopen week samen met mijn vader, en ben zelfs radioaktief geweest op 2m/70cm via repeaters. Foto's en een korte video staan nog op de camera van m'n vader. Helaas heb ik nog geen tijd gehad om de foto's van hem op te halen maar misschien lukt het nog komende week. We hebben alvast gezocht naar een goede plek voor een HF-station dat zal bestaan uit mijn FT-817, Superantenna MP-1 en 7Ah Accu. De vraag is... welk nationaal park dit is en wat het WFF nummer is? Ik heb als hint 2 foto's gemaakt met mijn telefoon van een mogelijke locatie.
Afgelopen weekendeen uurtje meegedaan met de CQWW WPX CW, meer tijd had ik niet. Heb 32 QSOs gemaakt eigenlijk 33 maar de eerste ging al de mist in toen ik per ongeluk nummer 50 gaf. Volgende keer beter opletten met het instellen van het programma. Wel heb ik stations gewerkt op 10, 15, 20 en 40m. Geen bijzondere DX, maar in iedergeval weer een puntje voor de VERON afdelingscontest.
I just discovered that I reached 3rd place in the PACC contest section SO SSB Low power (max. 100W). I reached my goal for this year. Not bad considering there were 161 participants in this most populair section. Goal for next year would be 2nd or first, but that will be difficult when I see the top scores in this section. The propagation has to be good at the moment if you look at the low A and K index, excellent for the WPX CW contest which is going on. Unfortenately did not have time yet, family life is more important and takes all the time. It's a miracle I can write something in this blog sometimes just before going to sleep.
Ik ontdekte net dat ik de derde plaats gehaald heb bij de PACC 2012 contest in de SO SSB Low power sectie (max. 100W). Ik heb mijn doel om bij de eerste 3 te komen dit jaar gehaald. Niet slecht gezien het aantal deelnemers van 161 in deze meest populaire sectie. Doel voor volgend jaar is plaats 2 of 1, maar dat zal wel heel erg moeilijk worden als ik naar de score van de eerste 2 kijk. De condities moeten nu wel erg goed zijn als je naar de lage A en K index kijkt, mooi voor de WPX CW contest die nu aan de gang is. Helaas heb ik er nog geen tijd voor gehad. Familie is voor mij op het moment belangrijker en ik hou eigenlijk thuis geen tijd over voor de hobby. Het is nog een wonder dat ik af en toe nog een stukje kan schrijven in dit blog zo vlak voor het slapen gaan.
Since I want to be active more with my portable setup this year I took the FT-817 with me in the car today. At lunchbreak I drove to a good DX location which was about 4km from my job in the polder on a dike. I setup the Watson Multiranger 200 antenna on the car and checked the SWR with my MFJ259 analyzer. I found it to be 1:1.1 on 14.200 again like always. First contact was with ID9Z who clearly didn't like to talk as he called CQ just after giving me a fast report. I tried to call CQ around the QRP frequency and got a reply from EA1FL/P Edu, we had a nice QSO and he explained his equipment was a military radio PRC320 with 30W into a military whip antenna. After a few overs we could give each other 5/8-5/9! I was using the FT817 on 2,5W so actually I could sign PE4BAS/P/QRP, I thought it would be too long but Edu had no problem with it at all. In the mean time I took my mobile phone to record the last over of the contact but something went wrong and at the end I recorded a totally different QSO with.....JX9JKA at Jan Mayen Island. Svein was sometimes a real 5/9 here and I got a signal report of 5/5. Remember I was transmitting only 2,5W in a mobile whip! I'm again really surprised about the little FT-817 and think this is a good start of the portable season. It also interested me in Jan Mayen Island, there is a website on the internet about this Island which has a nice history of Dutch Whaler fisherman searching for new hunting grounds there. The Island is actually named after a Dutchman. If you draw a line from my location to Jan Mayen you will only come across water, so I'm not surprised after all that I could make this QSO. At the link hobbies on that website there is something about the radioamateur station on the island, I don't know if it is up-to-date as last revision was in 2004.

Omdat ik dit jaar wat meer portabel aktief wil zijn had ik vandaag mijn FT-817 mee naar het werk in de auto. In de middagpauze naar een goede DX plek gereden boven op een dijk in de polder. De Watson Multiranger 200 op de auto gezet en afgeregeld met behulp van mijn MFJ259 analyzer. De SWR was zoals altijd 1:1.1 op 14.200. Eerste contact was met ID9Z die duidelijk geen zin had in een QSO, hij ging direct weer CQ roepen na een snel rapport. Ik ben maar eens gaan roepen rond de QRP frequentie en kreeg een antwoord van EA1FL/P Edu. Met hem had ik een leuk QSO waarin hij mij vertelde dat hij met militaire spullen werkt de PRC320 en 30W in een militaire spriet. Op gegeven moment konden we elkaar een rapport 5/8-5/9 geven, ik zat met 2,5W en kon eigenlijk de call PE4BAS/P/QRP gebruiken, een beetje lang maar Edu had er geen problemen mee. Ondertussen had ik snel mijn mobiele telefoon gepakt om de laatste doorgang te filmen. Helaas ging dat mis, ik legde de telefoon weg maar blijkbaar stond hij nog op opnemen en nam ik een heel ander QSO op met.....JX9JKA vanaf Jan Mayen Eiland. Svein was hier een echte 5/9 af en toe en ik kreeg een rapport 5/5, niet gek met 2,5W en een mobiele antenne! Ik vind de FT-817 elke keer weer verrassend en dit is dan een goede start van het portabel seizoen. Ik raakte hierdoor ook geïnteresseerd in Jan Mayen Eiland, er is een mooie website over dit eiland dat een rijke historie kent van walvisvaarders uit Nederland. Het eiland is zelfs genoemd naar een Nederlander. Als je een lijn trekt van mijn locatie naar Jan Mayen dan kom je alleen over water, dus eigenlijk is het geen verrassing dat ik dit QSO kon maken op deze manier. Er staat wat over het radioamateur station op het eiland onder de link hobbies op die website, hoe actueel dat is weet ik niet omdat het 8 jaar geleden voor het laatst aangepast is.
