What are you talking about in a QSO?

Jeff KE9V wrote a nice story about what you're telling someone that asks what we talk about in a QSO on air. Well, for some that's difficult to explain and for others it isn't. The amateur radio hobby is so versatile that we can talk about all kind of subjects on air. But I know from experience that you have to match with somebody to have a nice QSO. I've been a CB operator for many years and made afternoon QSOs all over the USA (that's were the real ragchewer lives) hours long even in kind of round table QSO format. We discussed not only hobby subjects but also about each others occupation, other hobbies like listening music and about the landscape for instance. But that all was before I got busted by the Dutch FCC, I had a illigal CB radio with SSB and transmitted on 26MHz. In the Netherlands this is a economical crime and the fines are high. I was just a student back then and lost my radio equipment and of course I had to pay the fine. I had to save money for a new radio and finally after a few years I got one. But never made such long QSOs and get more on the listening side of (CB) amateurradio as it was to dangerous to make long QSOs anymore and of course I didn't even think about discussing whatever could lead to my person or location. I think real QSOs as it was ment to be were banned out of my head. I actually get involved in legal amateurradio but cannot remeber I ever had DX QSOs like the old days on CB except may be for some neighbourhood QSOs I had with those that were also on CB here and are licensed now. I actually prefer listening and 59(9) QSOs now, I regret to tell you that but I enjoy it right now although I will do a "ragchew" if time, propagation and a operator that match will allow. So, what am I telling a outsider. Well most of the time I tell them I'm doing contests. Trying to get as many contacts with as many countries as possible just only exchange a signal report...not talking about anything on air.

Winning a contest.....another one.

Well, I hope you all don't think I'm a top contester. But I won again. I think it's just a matter of choosing a section the smart way. There was no other contestant on 40m single band low power CW. So, it was a easy one. It is a nice certificate though. But I prefer a token like they send for the PACC. Anyway, another motivating thing for th upcoming PACC which is held in about 2 weeks. It will be tough as I don't have the best antenna for 10m and 160m. But on 80m on the loop it will be great again with hopefully many pile-ups.

A couple of days ago I discovered Paul PC4T does blog again. I've added him at the blogroll again. I already predicted he would make his comeback. I think Paul is one of the most populair dutch hamradio bloggers at this moment. I think that's because he tries to answer every comment personally. Besides that it's what he is writing seems to be interesting for many people, although he doesn't think that himself I guess. Welcome back in blogland Paul.

Fantasy...

We had to buy the first shoes for Anneli yesterday and so, since there is no good shoe shop in the neighbourhood, we had to drive to another province. I already knew fellow blogger PA3GNZ would be on his way to the north and we made a little sked. Unfortunately we both used only our HT inside the car and even we made use of the CoVersity network it was difficult to make the contact on both sides. But at least we heard each other. On the way back home late in the evening we saw colorfull lights coming from the Eemshaven, so we decided to take a look. As you can see on the photo the lighs came from this incredible ship the Disney Fantasy. Fun for the most wealthy people. A trip true the Caribbean only costs about 3500 euro! That means if you're from Europe you first have to travel to the USA and after the trip you've to get back. I can't even imagine such things, and I'm shure Anneli will never get on such fantasy boats. Only in her dreams.

Alleen in haar dromen...
