The horizontal loop antenna has been dismantled and I have to do all radio work now with the vertical. Although I heard a lot of "new" DX this weekend I was not able to make many contacts. It seems the propagation is a little low. I tried on various bands, but not much luck. At least 1 new DXCC has been worked finally with a bit of luck JX9JKA from Jan Mayen heard me on my second call, he was working simplex on 17m. I've been trying for 7O6T today on 10m for half a hour, but no luck although he had a good signal. The pile-up was still too big. I hope JX9JKA will upload his log to LOTW some day as he asks 3 USD for a direct QSL!!! I'm sorry but I'm the last one that is buying his QSL. There were some special event stations this weekend from the "mills on the air" activation, although I saw a few on the DX cluster I've heard no one!
De horizontale loop antenne heb ik weer afgebroken. Nu dus alle radio werk weer met de vertikale antenne. Alhoewel ik dit weekend een hoop "nieuwe" DX landen heb gehoord kon ik er niet echt doorkomen. Het lijkt er op dat de propagatie een beetje slecht is. Ik heb diverse banden geprobeerd, maar weinig geluk. Toch nog 1 nieuwe gewerkt uiteindelijk, JX9JKA vanuit Jan Mayen hoorde mij na 2x roepen op 17m simplex. Ik heb vanmiddag nog even een half uur geprobeerd 7O6T te werken op 10m, maar helaas geen geluk. Zijn signaal was prima maar de pile-up is nog steeds te groot. Ik hoop dat JX9JKA zijn log een keer upload naar LOTW want hij vraagt maar liefst 3 USD voor een kaartje!!. Ik zal de laatste zijn die dat kaartje van hem gaat kopen! Er waren dit weekend speciale stations van de "Molens on air" activatie i.v.m. de nationale (internationale?) molendagen in de lucht maar ondanks dat ik ze wel gespot zag op het DX cluster heb ik geen enkele gehoord.
At the moment we're very busy with building and so again no time for the radio hobby. Actually I even have no time to remove the horizontal loop antenna. I don't care but my XYL doesn't like the ugly wire thing around the garden. I received the confirmation for QSOs on 12m and 17m with D2AM today. Another QSL that disappears in a dark box. At least I'm showing it here on my blog ;-). So different from DX hunting I did on 11 Mtrs years ago. Those QSLs are all in showmaps placed in ringbands at order of DXCC number as used in the 11 Mtr DXing scene. I could do that for these QSLs as well if I had the same feeling with it. But I don't.....strange.
I had a afternoon off from my job to help my carpenter here at home. Very heavy work, it has to be done. We get doors to the garden which we wished for since we came here. Now a dream does come through. When calling with my little Baofeng HT over the PI2DZL repeater when biking home I got a response from PD2VB Bram. I already wrote about him a few posts ago as I managed my first QSOs with the Baofeng with him via the CoVersity network. Bram told me he did go for the full license, actually I misunderstood as he was going the same afternoon. Today I got a e-mail from him that he got through and did pass the exams to gt his full license. Congrats if you read this Bram, another good CB buddy from long time ago has got his full license.
Last year I wrote about CQfriends, a community website for radio amateurs like for instance facebook without all the irritating advertising. It still exists and is becoming quite populair. You can now upload your logs and they start with a exciting new award program. At the moment they are busy with a voting round for award number #1. The nice thing is that this first award is going to be delivered to the winner personally not matter where he lives! A great publicity stunt I think.
We zijn op het moment weer erg druk met verbouwingen. Dus natuurlijk weer geen tijd voor de radiohobby. Het is zelfs zo dat ik nog steeds geen tijd heb gehad om de horizontale loop antenne weg te halen. Het ding staat mij niet in de weg maar mijn XYL vind het natuurlijk een lelijk ding zo rond de tuin. Vandaag de bevestiging ontvangen van 2 QSO's met D2AM Angola op 12m en 17m. Weer een QSL die verdwijnt in een donkere doos, ik laat hem tenminste nog even zien op mijn blog ;-). Zo heel anders als de QSL's van DX op 11Mtr die ik altijd in showmappen deed en op volgorde van DXCC nummers zoal gebruikelijk op 11Mtr in ringbanden deed. Ik zou dat met deze QSL's ook kunnen doen als ik er hetzelfde gevoel bij had. Maar dat heb ik niet.....vreemd.
Ik had gisterenmiddag vrij van het werk om de timmerman te helpen. Zwaar werk natuurlijk, maar goed het moet gebeuren. We krijgen tuindeuren, iets wat we al graag wouden sinds we hier wonen. Nu komt die droom eindelijk uit. Op weg vanaf het werk al fietsende deed ik even een roepje op PI2DZL met de Baofeng. PD2VB Bram reageerde, over Bram heb ik al eens iets geschreven een paar berichten terug. Ik had 1 van de eerste QSO's met de Baofeng via het CoVersity netwerk met hem. Bram vertelde mij dat hij voor het F examen gegaan was, maar ik verstond dat verkeerd. Het bleek dat hij een uur later al examen moest doen en niet al gedaan had. Daar kwam ik vandaag achter toen ik een e-mail van hem kreeg met het bericht dat hij geslaagd is. Weer een 27MC vriend van vroeger die de F licentie heeft gehaald. Gefeliciteerd Bram mocht je dit lezen...
Afgelopen jaar schreef ik over CQfriends, een community website voor radioamateurs zoals facebook ongeveer maar zonder irritante advertenties. Het bestaat nog steeds en ik heb het idee dat het vrij populair word. Nu kun je o.a. je log uploaden en ze starten met een nieuw award programma. Op het moment zijn ze bezig met een verkiezingsronde, de winnaar ervan krijgt award nr. 1, het allereerste award dus. En het mooie is dat ze deze award persoonlijk af gaan leveren waar ter wereld deze amateur ook woont. Dat is wel een leuke publiciteitsstunt.
Well, my XYL had to go to a birthdayparty yesterday evening. So, after I brought my little daughter Anneli to her bed I had a spare hour to spend in front of the radio. Of course hoping for that QSO with 7O6T. After consulting the DXcluster I tried to hear them different bands, but unfortenately no 7O6T anywere except for the pile-up of course. I decided to install the newest version of HRD (5.21.0.57) instead to try it out. After HRD moved to LLC software I only upgraded to the first new version in which I never discovered any problems. Anyway, I installed it and made some quick tests and restored my favorites as they are gone after you install the new version. It's a known bug so you better save your favorites before upgrading. I made 2 RTTY QSOs to Oman and Belarus on 20m with DM780 without any problems, only when I tried to double click on the call to get it in the log the program refused. I have no problem with that although it makes logging slower. After that I tried once more to hear 7O6T somewhere and yes a very weak signal was just audible on 17m I could decode a few words "I don't hear any stations". This was my chance as it seems he was just starting to call, I shouted my call 10KHz up and he came back "PE4BA" what is your last letter. I shouted "Sierra Sierra PE4BAS" and he came back with my call this time. After exchanging the usual 59 report the QSO was a fact. I manually typed the call in the logbook windows and hit F1 to log. But HRD logbook refuses, again I tried this time with the mouse....and again it refuses. Whatever I tried, I could not log any call. Oops, never had serious issues with HRD before, but this seems to be a great bug. Luckely Windows has a restore function and within a matter of minutes I was back at the old version again where after testing I could log without any problem. I think the HRD programming team has lots to do before they have a reliable version.
Gisterenavond was mijn XYL op verjaardagsvisite en na het naar bed brengen van mijn QRP Anneli had ik nog een uurtje over om de radio aan te zetten. Natuurlijk hopende op het QSO met 7O6T. Snel het DX cluster bekeken en geluisterd op diverse banden. Maar helaas, geen 7O6T te horen, wel de pile-up natuurlijk. Ik heb toen maar besloten om de nieuwste versie van Ham Radio Deluxe (5.21.0.57) te installeren om uit te proberen. Na de overgang van HRD naar LLC had ik alleen nog maar de eerste update geïnstalleerd en daarmee nog geen problemen ondervonden. Maar goed, ik heb snel even wat testjes uitgevoerd en mijn favorieten terug gezet. Die zijn namelijk weg na het installeren van de nieuwe versie, dit is een bekend probleem dus voor het installeren je favorieten even opslaan! Op 20m nog 2 RTTY QSO's gemaakt met Oman en Belarus, dat ging op zich prima alleen waar ik vroeger dubbel kon klikken op de call om het in het log te zetten, weigert het programma dit nu te doen. Heb ik op zich niet zoveel problemen mee, maar het maakt het loggen wel een stuk langzamer. Toen nog maar eens geluisterd of ik 7O6T nu kon horen, en ja heel zwak op 17m kon ik af en toe wat woorden meekrijgen "I don't hear any stations".....Mooi dit is mijn kans, 10 KHz erboven geroepen en ja 2x roepen en hij kwam terug. "PE4BA what is your last letter" waarna ik terug schreeuwde "Sierra Sierra PE4BAS". Gelukkig kon hij me dit keer om nemen en na het uitwissellen van het standaard 59 rapport was het QSO een feit. Ik tik de call manueel in het logveld van HRD logboek en druk F1 om te loggen....niks. Nog maar een keer met de muis dan....niks. Wat ik ook probeer, ik kan geen enkele call loggen in het logboek. Oei, tot nu toe had ik weinig problemen met HRD, maar dit is toch wel een heel grote bug. Gelukkig zit er een restore functie op Windows en heb ik binnen een paar minuten de oude versie maar weer terug gezet waar het loggen zonder problemen gaat. Het HRD programmeurs team heeft nog veel te doen denk ik, voordat ze een betrouwbare versie in elkaar kunnen zetten.
