Building repeaters for fun!

When driving home I had a nice conversation with PA3FZW Alex from Delfzijl last evening. It's seldom I hear anyone reply on my CQ on the PI2DZL 70cm repeater I can easily reach with the Baofeng on my bicycle. It really was a nice conversation and it turns out he was one of the builders of this repeater and many others in the region. The repeaters are not much in use unfortenately. According to Alex that was just because there are not too many amateurradio stations in this area. So, the area has a lot of repeater capacity, actually too much. But it doesn't matter, Alex and other Ham radio repeater builders from this area like to build repeaters just for the fun of it.

It's just incredible a 10m repeater, 4x 70cm repeater, 2m repeater and a 23cm repeater. Just for the fun of it!

Toen ik gisterenavond naar huis reed had ik nog een leuk QSO met Alex PA3FZW. Het is maar zelden dat iemand reageerd op mijn CQ via de PI2DZL 70cm  repeater welke ik het beste kan bereiken met de Baofeng porto op de fiets. Het was een leuk QSO en Alex bleek 1 van de bouwers van deze repeater en een aantal andere te zijn. Jammergenoeg zijn de repeaters niet veel in gebruik hier in de omgeving. Volgens Alex komt dat omdat er hier gewoon minder mensen en dus radioamateurs wonen. We hebben dus een overcapaciteit. Maar het maakt niet uit, Alex en zijn mede repeaterbouwers bouwen gewoon voor de gein en hebben er plezier aan.
