Yet another CQWW story...

Well, in the mean time so many fellow bloggers did tell about the CQWW I can't say much about it. At least I did enjoy it very much. Thanks to my XYL who did visit her mother at Sunday so I could take part in the contest for several hours at row. Unfortenately I did not work any new DXCC, I did hear S79K for a short time very weak on 10m though and missed my yagi antenna for that band. Of course I did work some nice DX so I cannot complain at all. What took my attention this contest was the amount of stations especially from the USA that had very strong signals but could not hear much. So I missed most of the regular contest stations that I normally work because I simply couldn't reach them. Likewise 6W1RY which I heard on several bands with very strong signals and Japanese stations on 40m who were just as strong as European stations but didn't hear me. The QRM from Europe must be overwhelming I guess. The strange thing was that some stations that I could barely hear with no signal at all were reachable within 1 call...very strange. I stopped exactly on 300 Sunday evening, I though it was a nice number to end with.

Ondertussen zijn er al zoveel medebloggers die over de CQWW hebben geschreven dat ik er nog weinig aan toe te voegen heb. In iedergeval heb ik er veel plezier aan beleefd. Met dank aan mijn XYL die Zondag naar haar moeder is gegaan zodat ik een aantal uren door kon gaan in de contest. Helaas geen nieuwe DXCC kunnen werken, wel heb ik S79K korte tijd heel zwak kunnen horen op 10m, dan mis je toch wel een goede richtantenne. Uiteraard wel leuke DX gewerkt dus ik mag absoluut niet klagen. Wat me deze contest opviel was dat sommige stations vooral uit de USA erg sterk waren maar helaas teveel QRM hadden. Veel conteststations die ik anders wel werk kon ik helaas dit keer niet werken. Ook 6W1RY werd op diverse banden erg sterk gehoord, maar wat ik ook deed ik kon geen QSO maken. Datzelfde had ik met diverse Japanse stations op 40m die soms net zo sterk waren als EU stations, maar helaas geen QSO. De QRM uit Europa moet dan elders ook wel overweldigend geweest zijn. Het gekke was dat ik sommige stations maar nauwelijks kon waarnemen, maar juist die stations hoefde ik maar 1x te roepen en had ik een QSO....heel apart. Zondagavond ben ik gestopt bij 300, toen vond ik het wel mooi geweest.

Well I'm not the only one reporting but since I got the e-mail as well..... Probabely someone involved in he CQWW contest committee did read my blog and thoughts about the CQWW assisted category. Or there were more people that were confused. Here is the e-mail:

Dear Fellow contester,

Many of you do not subscribe to the contest reflector or CQ magazine and you may have missed our public announcement.  The CQ WW Contest   Committee would like to inform you via this news letter that the ASSISTED CATEGORY award program has been greatly expanded.

n  We announce the strengthening of the assisted awards program. Starting with the 2010 CQ WW contests, the assisted category award program will be greatly expanded.

n   All Low Power and QRP assisted entrants will be specifically listed and eligible for awards as is already the case for unassisted entries. 

n  A band-by-band breakdown for all band assisted World, Europe and USA will be provided within the 2010 results. 

n  Lastly, the number of plaques available to assisted entrants will be increased to include Europe Assisted All Band and all World Assisted Single Bands. 

We hope that this action provides an incentive for entrants using a QSO spotting system to join the assisted category.

Please make a note that the log submission deadline for SSB has changed to Nov 21, 2010 and for CW to Dec 21, 2010.

Ik ben niet de enige die er over schrijft maar omdat ik deze e-mail kreeg....Schijnbaar heeft iemand van de CQWW organisatie mijn blog gelezen. Of er zijn meer mensen die commentaar op de regels hadden.

Real QRP(ieter)

Today I stayed home for one day. Anneli wasn't that well and has a cold now for 3 weeks. She threw up her milk all the time yesterday. So I give her some more attention, a so called father-daughter day. I took her for a long walk this morning because fresh air is healthy. Luckely she hasn't got fever and she's still laughing en today it went a lot better.Finally I saved some money for a FT-817 and see a miracle happened, a FT-817 for sale on the Dutch "Marktplaats". Already there were some bids on it and I did quickly e-mail the owner PE1OGE John, he agreed with the price and even delivered it at my home as he was in the neighbourhood for his job. This FT-817ND is as good as new and only been used on vacation to Ameland Isl. but because it has to many menus John did sell it. I didn't have time to test the radio properly but made a short test on VHF with the rubberduck, I opened the repeater on 2m from Delfzijl just with 0,5W, so that worked well. This one is equipped with the new high power accu, so I hope I got fun with it. I saw that the dataconnector is the same as the Icom and so the AFSK modem can be connected without any problem. Unfortenately the mike connector isn't the same so  I need a adaptorcable for my headset. A while ago I bought the MP-1 antenna from M6RDP and now I can finally test it outside, just waiting or good weather...

Vandaag een dagje thuisgebleven. Anneli was niet helemaal lekker en is al 3 weken verkouden en gisteren kwam elke keer weer de melk naar buiten. Dus wat extra aandacht aan haar besteed. Een vader - dochter dag zeg maar. Vanochtend een heel stuk met haar gewandeld want frisse lucht is gezond. Gelukkig heeft ze verder geen koorts en is lacht ze nog steeds en vandaag ging het al weer een stuk beter. 
Eindelijk had ik wat geld bij elkaar voor een FT-817, en zie het wonder geschiedde, er werd er 1 aangeboden op marktplaats. Aangezien er al driftig op geboden werd direct maar een mail geschreven aan PE1OGE John die hem te koop aanbood. Hij ging akkoord met de prijs en kwam de radio zelfs langs brengen aangezien hij voor zijn werk toch in de buurt was. Deze FT-817ND was zo een beetje nieuw en was alleen maar gebruikt op vakantie naar Ameland, maar omdat er teveel menu's in zaten had John het wel gezien. Ik heb verder eigenlijk nog geen tijd gehad om de radio echt te testen, wel heb ik ter test even een roepje gedaan op een VHF  2m repeater in Delfzijl gewoon met de rubberduck, dat ging prima, zelfs met 0,5W. Voordeel is dat hier de nieuwe hoog vermogen accu bij zit. Via de gebruiksaanwijzing kwam ik erachter dat de dataconnector achter op hetzelfde is als bij de Icom, het AFSK modem kan er dus direct op aangesloten. De microfoon aansluiting helaas niet, daar zal ik een verloop voor moeten maken als ik de headset wil aansluiten. Verder heb ik een tijd geleden de MP-1 antenne van M6RDP overgenomen dus kan ik die nu eens gaan testen, moet het eerst wel weer wat beter weer worden.
