YU3AWA statement - CQ communications statement

Marija has made a statement and though it appears on other blogs as well I will repost it again. The Netherlands army was involved in a very nasty way in the former Yugoslavian countries as well. All in the name of peace. But war only has loosers.

One of the biggest contest organisations, probabely the biggest, will exclude Russian radio amateurs from the upcoming CQWW WPX SSB contest at the end of this month.

They are not the only ones doing this. They want to give a signal to the russian radioamateurs that what their country leader is doing is wrong. I understand their statement and understand that the organisation want to do something. I can't really judge if this is right or wrong. What I do know is that many russian people and especially the international oriented radioamateurs do know very well what is going on. However any public opinion will not count for their political leader. You can't talk about the war, you can't protest in Russia. If you do so you will loose your job, income, house, family, radioamateur license or whatever. Probabely end up in jail for a very long time. What would you do in such a situation?

  1. Good morning Bas, thanks for sharing Marija's post. It can't be ignored that this can be a very divisive subject. But it must be talked about among hams. It's important to hear both sides (in a respectful manner)and not shut someone down for their opinion. If we start to only allow a one-sided conversation we are no better than Putin.

    1. You're right Mike, that's why I don't judge about good or wrong in this matter. People decise for their own what their opinion is and I'll try to respect that. 73, Bas

  2. Good morning Bas - I'd like to know if Marija supports the current economic sanctions against Russia by many countries. They certainly don't affect Putin personally - only the common citizen.

As for war not having any winners, many European 1930's-era Jews and pre-1865 American blacks may disagree with you.

    1. Hello John, I guess if you want to know you have to ask her yourself. I agree if you look at some groups of people in history they had a benefit after the war, so in that way they can be called "winners". 73, Bas

    1. Hallo Paul, het valt me wel op dat de meningen in Amerika vaak anders zijn als in Europa. Dat merk je o.a. aan de reacties op diverse forums en op mijn blog. 73, Bas
