I was using JT65 this evening with 5W from my FT817 on 40m. Antenna was the 84m loop. The surprise was my signal being received by VP8DMH at the Halley Research station, Brunt Ice shelf, Antarctica. Didn't see him making QSOs so I guess he was just listening!
Ik was vanavond aktief met JT65 op 40m met de FT817 op 5W. De antenne was de 84m loop. De verassing was dat mijn signaal ontvangen werd door VP8DMH vanaf Halley Research station, Brunt ijsschots op de zuidpool. Ik zag hem geen QSO's maken dus alleen luisterende denk ik.
Kijk Bas, daarom gaat er weer niets boven Groningen. 84 meter antenne en 5w. Dat zijn weer de krenten in de pap. Wanneer mij zoiets overkomt loop ik daarna vaak naar beneden naar de tuin, kijk naar m'n FD4 en denk: 37 jaar oud, maar je werkt nog best. Congrats and Happy Xmas. Joop, PA3JD
Thanks for all the comments. I investigated the received stations from VP8DMH and it seems genuine. He received more from my direction and the USA. Still it is strange as the 40m DX path is almost always in the dark. But it could be that it is due to the short days? The USA stations that received me were also still in daylight. So unfortunate he was not transmitting that really would be a unforgettable QSO. 73, Bas
