10m ARRL contest part 2

What can I tell, can propagation get any better? I only made 15 QSOs in the morning as my second operator did not know which buttons to push, so I had to follow her with my eyes constantly before she would switch off the entire station. That almost happened! Anyway, when she was away and in bed for her afternoon nappy I made te rest of the QSOs and stopped at 200. 15:15 UTC like yesterday. At that time the greyline was jumping in and the frequency went crazy. Worked 1 station/minute last 20 minutes. Signals booming from Europe, South, Central and North America with signals over S-9. Real fun to contest like this even without a beam. So different from my first ARRL 10m contest in 2006 when I actually obtained first place in the same category as now because I was the only participant! A overview: 2006-22 QSOs, 2007-30 QSOs (as PA25HSG), 2008-20 QSOs, 2009-21 QSO's, 2010-5 QSOs, 2011-200 QSOs. What a difference!! Lot's of nice DXCC worked a few new ones on 10m. A all band new one today was Guam which was surprisingly easy to work, and as he worked a lot of Dutch stations there seems to be a small path of propagation in between. Don't know how many USA/Canada stations I worked as I lost count, I probabely worked some new states. A list of interesting DXCC:

A61BK (UAE), UA9XL (As.Russia), RK8I (Uzbekistan), HS0ZDG (Thailand), V25R (Antigua&Barbuda), VK6IR (Australia), UN6P (Kazachstan), CE1DY (Chile), AU2JCB (India), B7P (China), LV5V (Argentina), CO2CW (Cuba), SV5DKL (Dodecanese), HI3TEJ (Dominican Rep.), TR8CA (Gabon), BX5AA (Taiwan), EK6TA (Armenia), KP2A (US Virgin Isl.), TI5N (Costa Rica), NH2DX (Guam), HZ1FI (Saudi Arabia), PU2LEP (Brazil), HK1NA (Colombia).

Hi Bas,

I agree conditions were superb on 10M during the ARRL contest and I also had great fun.

I did work a few Dutch stations, but alas no PA4BAS.

Hello Pierre, thanks for you comment. You had to look for PE4BAS ;-) Anyway, did hear only one ZS and he was doing S&P so unworkable for me. Last year I did QSO ZS6BRZ in this contest. I guess we need bad propagation to reach RSA otherwise the signal jumps right over. Hope to meet you another time though. 73, Bas

Good morning Bas, sounds from all I hear that this was a great contest. I had to skip this one my wife wanted to get the Christmas stuff up at home. Great picture of you and your daughter by the way...mine is 22 now and your picture brings back nice memories. Oh and I hope you are beginning to feel better as well.

Hello Mike, well you missed some good propagation. But you have to choose what you do with your time. My wife still isn't in the Christmas mood she says. Lucky me...
A daughter of 22 years, wow...in my eyes that is a long time. But what from what they say time flies. The picture was made by request of another radio amateur, I though it was a nice one to put on the blog. I feel a little better, but still coughing a lot. 73, Bas

73, Bas

Yes great CONDX on 10m recently Bas - make the most of it! I have a lot of QRM in the shack from the harmonics. We are very lucky to have these wonderful kids to help us with the hobby LOL!! Anyway 10m was open at 7.30am this morning here, so it's still in great nick despite the fact we are just one week away from midwinter.

Heb alleen zondag even meegedaan.

Hi Bas,We were very lucky that the propagation was good during some contests the last weeks. The ARRL 10M was here with just a Fb13,GPA30 and put up a 27mhz antenna for extra.
I was busy longer then you so also more qso's in my log.Total of 386 qso's and 62 DXCC's.

They are busy to get up a new roof here and isolate it as well. When they are finished,i can start digging a hole for my tower. Then the antenne's will be up here around 11-12 meters from the ground.

Here's my result in the ARRL 10M:

@Tony, do you have co- operators already hihi. 7:30 am is early indeed. Don't know what time 10m was open here as family life makes it difficult to get in front of the radio first thing in the morning.
