N1MM with FLDIGI: Lots of configuration possebilities, the big advantage is the clear waterfall and of course the audio memory or history. Different digital modes are almost countless. When testing I discovered a disadvantage, FLDIGI decodes and responds slow compared to MMVARI/MMTTY. The audio history doesn't decode always or too slow. RX/TX switching seems to have a few ms delay, and I did not discover a solution for that in the configuration. Filtering options are minimal and restarting N1MM gives only minimal improvement. FLDIGI receives well and I could not see any difference compared to other software. I think it's a great program for S&P especially when you work with it on remote via internet. I like this program most when the band is quiet.
N1MM with MMVARI: Worked a lot with this software in several contests but miss the audio history and that is the main disadvantage. Advantage is that it is fast and has a lot of filters though I have questionmarks for the use of that kind of filtering. It also has a large clear waterfall like FLDIGI. You can choose a multichannel (4) configuration to see 4 traces at the same time but it is nothing compared to the DM780 superbrowser. I like the possebility of RTTY-USB and RTTY-LSB. I think it is a great program for S&P and running also on remote via internet.
N1MM with MMTTY: First time in this contest that I used this software. 2 main disadvantages are no audio history and no clear waterfall. Adavantage is the fast response and fast automatic tune on the signal and great push the button filtering. I think this is the program to use when you have the radio besides the computer and you like to dail the tuneknob. If you used to do RTTY on USB don't forget to click the reverse button otherwise you will not decode anything and they won't hear you. And yes, I know that the N1MM manual told me to use LSB in AFSK mode, but I'm used to DM780 were all digmodes are used in USB. MMTTY is the program to work with when you are in the shack with the radio. But it is useless for remote via internet.
Finally I made only 53 QSO in the SCC RTTY championship because I was testing all kind of configuration possebilities of all 3 programs. Nice thing is that I can now switch very fast between 3 different RTTY programs in N1MM. It could be a advantage.
